OVERVIEW:

The Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS) Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides information technology support to over 13,000 employees. OIT oversees large scale enterprise applications that support the critical and diverse business needs of the State of Maine and its agencies.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Office of Information Technology provides a full range of enterprise technologies to support the Citizens of Maine. This is an exciting position that will require an individual who has demonstrated experience with a successful track record in providing support and administration of network-based security products – secure Remote Access Systems (RAS), IPAM/DNS/DHCP system (Infoblox), security log analysis and remediation. Our team touches the data that helps to inform those who make decisions and ultimately support programs to serve the citizens of Maine. This is a complex position that demands technical, communication and collaboration skills. Work is performed under limited supervision. The position is based in Augusta.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

This position is responsible for managing and administering the following: Operation and maintenance of our Cisco AnyConnect remote access system; installing, supporting and configuring various policies and related security updates; analyzing traffic-based security events and producing reports of same; marshaling and promoting appropriate remediation. Also this position will back up the Infoblox Administer to keep the DNS, DHCP and IPAM systems up to date and functioning properly.

AN AVERAGE DAY OF RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE THINGS LIKE…

  • Operate Cisco AnyConnect remote access system. Oversee maintenance, upgrades, and capacity planning of same.

  • Create, run, and publish ad hoc reports as well as weekly and monthly reports.

  • Designing and implementing system security measures such as backups, access control, system accounting, and disaster recovery to ensure and maintain system integrity and availability.

  • Participating in the development and implementation of agency information system policy to establish agency operating standards and procedures.

  • Researching, recommending, installing, and configuring hardware, software, and networks servers with multi-user operating and/or networking systems to establish and maintain agency information systems.

  • Performing fault isolation and repairs in a complex computing/networking environment independently or in consultation with vendor or other technical personnel to diagnose and correct system problems.

  • Participating in the development of internal data management plans and coordinating plans and activities with personnel of other agencies to avoid duplication of efforts, share information, and maximize system efficiency.

  • Participating in the planning, implementation, and management of special projects to develop project management skills and aid in achieving agency information systems objectives.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of Web Application Firewalls

  • Knowledge security best practices.

  • Knowledge of UNIX or Unix-like operating system(s).

  • Knowledge of hardware firewalls and appliances.

  • Ability to measure and improve quality of operations according to best practices of the industry.

  • Ability to work with DNS/DHCP/IPAM.

  • Ability to manage and oversee multiple projects/activities simultaneously.

  • Ability to support complex multi-user computer network systems.

  • Ability to train users and other personnel in all phases of system support, utilization, and applications.

  • Ability to support complex software applications.

  • Ability to support system back-up and data security techniques.

  • Ability to support advanced troubleshooting and problem resolution techniques.

  • Ability to manage projects.

  • Ability to communicate effectively at the technical and non-technical level.

  • Ability to solve complex technical computer problems.

  • Ability to perform research and make recommendations to management on technical computer issues.

  • Ability to perform work requiring lifting and/or physical exertion may be required.

  • Ability to motivate people and work to create effective teams.

  • Understanding of customer relationship best practices.

  • Demonstrated desire to exercise accountability in a professional manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to respond in a timely and effective manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 6 years of a combination of related post-secondary education, technical certifications, or technology related work experience. Related training, internship experience etc. may be credited as related experience on a month-per-month basis.

Preference will be given to individuals who have knowledge and experience with any or all of the following in an enterprise environment:

  • Hardware based security systems

  • Unix-like operating system(s)

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate, or another relevant Cisco certification

  • Cisco AnyConnect remote Access systems

  • Infoblox IPAM, DNS and DHCP systems

  • CompTIA relevant certifications, i.e. Network+, Security+ and/or CSA

      • SIEM (i.e. Splunk)

  • NIST controls and/or security audits

The selected candidate will be required to successfully pass the required background checks as a condition of employment.
