Senior Communications and Engagement Specialist

Community Police Commission

The Community Police Commission is a 13 member, diverse board created by voters in 2021 and is responsible for Civilian Oversight of the Cleveland Division of Police. Duties, powers and responsibilities of the CPC include engaging the community in police policy creation and building a collaborative relationship between the police and communities they serve.

 

Examples of Duties

Under administrative direction, is responsible for planning and adminstering a specific project or program for a City department. Serves as the administrative supervisor on projects or programs. Plans, assigns, supervises, and reviews activities of subordinate personnel. Monitors the project or program's operating budget and assists in the annual preparation of same. Designs, implements, and monitors procedures utilized in program evaluation. Develops and secures commitments from other City departments and agencies to provide services to program participants. Provides technical assistance or reviews program policies and procedures. Maintains current information and oversees the preparation of project status reports. Prepares financial and narrative reports and program applications. Communicates project/program status and information to municipal officials and/or public and private entities. May supervise employees assigned to the respective project. Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

A High School Diploma or GED is required. A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four year college or university in Business or Public Administration, Social Sciences, or closely related field preferred. Two (2) years of full-time, paid, progressively responsible experience in program administration is required. Must be able to lift and carry thirty (30) pounds. A valid State of Ohio Driver's License is required.

Supplemental Information

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In conjunction with the Executive Director, the Assistant Director and the community engagement team members create and project manage the deliverables of the communications and engagement strategy for the CPC.

Manage and assist in the creation of policy for the CPC's online presence including website and social media

Research and write press releases, and content for the City's website, infographics, blogs, newsletters, emails and other communication channels.

Develop, edit, proofread and serve as internal resource for program and event materials such as print collateral, web/digital updates, social media, outreach communications, special events, and specific communications as requested.

Research and write scripts for videos and events.

Assist with writing speeches for the executive director and members of the board as requested. Adhere to the City's communications guidelines while drafting, editing and proofing content materials to ensure a high-quality and error-free final product.

Work with the Executive Director and the Assistant Director to produce an annual report and any additional reports required by the Commission

Work with internal team to brainstorm content ideas in line with the CPC's strategy and in support of various policy initiatives.

Support operations and evaluate results of communication activities with all CPC team members.

Acquire and maintain a detailed knowledge of the City's policies, principles, and strategies, and keep up-to-date with relevant developments. Specifically police policy.

Build and maintain relationships with journalists and key internal role-players. Prioritize projects and deliverables to meet absolute deadlines

Take the lead in planning events and coordinating logistics of Commissioner led community forums and town halls
