JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Position Description:

The Coal and Coke Heritage Center, located at the Pennsylvania State University Fayette, Eberly Campus, is accepting applications for a Part-Time Collections Services Assistant . Under the general supervision of the Coal and Coke Heritage Center Archivist, this individual will support the CCHC by processing archival collections, housing various materials, creating permanent and temporary exhibits, and a ssisting patrons and researchers. This position is made possible through the J. Harold and Mary L. Arnold Coal and Coke Endowment.

The schedule is 25 hours a week between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. The successful candidate for this role will work with the supervisor to create an appropriate working schedule. This position is on-site at the Fayette, Eberly campus located in Lemont Furnace, Pennsylvania. A cover letter, resume, and references must accompany the completed online job application.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Staffing the service desk and administrative support tasks

  • Assist with the creation of a permanent exhibit within the CCHC

  • Retrieve and reshelve archival collections

  • Assist with the description of collection material s comprised of multiple formats

  • Aid in arranging and housing collection materials

  • Aid in creating finding aids for various collections in ArchivesSpace

  • Assist with Oral History transcriptions and revisions

  • Create various temporary exhibits both within the CCHC and in the main Library

    Qualifications

    Required:

  • Master's degree in museum studies or history , or current master's degree student in relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience processing archival, photographic, or manuscr ipt collections

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office , particularly Excel and Word

  • Ability to handle rare and fragile materials

  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to work both independently and collaborati vely on both long- and short-term assignments simultaneously

    Preferred:

  • Familiarity with ArchivesSpace and Trint , or other archival management applications
