We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Chief Power Engineer within our Chemical Manufacturing Facility located in Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada.

 

Essential Job Duties:

  • Ensures that all utilities, i.e. steam, air, water, fire and waste systems are supplied to plant for both consumption and uninterrupted production.
  • Conducts daily work activities in support of HSE objectives and policies. 
  • Assists with carrying out duties, responsibilities and authority as defined in HSE programs, practices and procedures.
  • Works safely, with respect to health and environmental requirements.
  • Coordinates maintenance for department equipment including routine maintenance checks.
  • Diagnoses problems and determines possible solutions. 
  • Advises and assists  maintenance as required.
  • Issues safety work permits as required.
  • Maintains daily log sheets, operational data and charts for purposes of record keeping as legislated.
  • Ensures that all work performed is done in accordance with plant Safety policies and procedures, Environmental standards and TSSA standards.
  • Ensures that general housekeeping and minor maintenance is performed within the Utilities department.
  • Assists in developing, updating and proofing department procedures.
  • Provides operational and various administrative support functions.
  • Provides inventory control and orders Utility chemicals as required.

 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Must possess a valid 1ST Class Operating Engineer’s License, knowledge of Operating Engineers Act, boilers, pressure vessels and fuels.
  • Knowledge of all applicable TSSA regulations.
  • Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Power Engineering Technology or related field of study or equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of power generation / transmission technology, water and waste water treatment including processes, procedures and related systems in a plant environment.
  • Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
  • Knowledge of computers and ability to operate computer systems and software applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, Power-point, Outlook, and to conduct research using the internet.
  • SAP knowledge / experience would be an asset.
  • High level of problem solving/analytical skills, strong organizational and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team is required.

 

Experience :

  • Related Utilities management experience in plant operations with a focus on power technology, systems, processes and project management.
  • Must have related experience and be familiar with plant operations, systems, processes, procedures and experience with TSSA regulations on several levels.
  • Proven experience with diagnostic, analytical and problem solving to resolve issues effectively.
  • Previous Utilities related experience including planning, coordinating, organizing work or projects.
  • Related experience in preparing reports and maintaining accurate records.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.  Ability to deal with tact, diplomacy and courtesy.
  • In addition, must have previous experience with Health and Safety practices and procedures in a manufacturing environment, ideally a chemical processing facility.
